Steve Jobs: First time ever browser on a digital audio player?

According to Ars Technica, Mr. Jobs has been at it again, bragging about another first for Apple:

Jobs said that it's the "first time ever" a browser has been built into a digital audio player.

Well, Mr. Jobs, if this quote is indeed correct, I'm afraid I must disappoint you again. You see, certain other companies would disagree. You are behind by about a year in this particular example, it seems.

But it's good to see that you, too, are coming to realize the importance of Web browsing on all types of devices. You and the rest of the market are finally realizing that Opera has been right for all these years. But Opera does have a head start, seeing as we started preparing for this many, many years ago.

  1. So the new iPod Touch can't play videos? Those Archos devices can't play music? If it walks like a duck… 🙂

  2. The difference in main purpose Ipod Touch – still audioplayer with wide functions, Archos – mediacenter. If talk about PMPs it includes PSP,n-gage and other mobiles of last series that got browsers even earlier and can play music/video aswell, but i'm not sure if u would call it audioplayers :)It's just fcking brilliant idea from Apple to make it look somekind of "evolution" of old ipod to have no rivals, than adding it to category of mediacenters with lots of it.sry for my eng

  3. You are playing with words here. Clearly, the iPod Touch is a PMP, as it even has a shortcut directly to YouTube.Yes, PSP and others definitely did browsing a long time before Apple. This makes Steve's comments even worse. He gives the impression that he is completely out of touch with what's going on in the market.

  4. i don't know why the need of all those classifications, dap or pmp or mعw ? but if they exists, let's be strict, should dap be limited to audio playing ? so internet browsing is enough to bring the new ipod out of dap specs.from another point of view, isn't ipod touch a dephonated version of iphone (the first ever phone that runs a web browser, if i well remember what i read on my om before iphone was released 😀 ) ?i can say that my legacy computer is the most perfect calculator ever invented, it runs many apps beside the calculator, that may help me to market it, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a very old and weak computer (sorry my computer, face it).i wonder what's next ? i am afraid the next time apple wakes up, should it invent the wheel ? even if ancient iraqis invented it some times ago, who knows, lets say it is the wheel of history, and like always, the market will follow the wheel of fortune.
