Opera Web Mail (operamail.com) is coming home

Until now, Opera Web Mail has been hosted by various external companies. The most recent hosting provider was IBM, after they acquired Outblaze, which hosted Opera Web Mail at the time.

The problem with external providers is that they don't necessarily have your service as the #1 priority, and there are limitations to what you can do with the service if you don't have full access to it.

Well, there is finally some good news for OWM members! …

Johan just announced in the OWM forum that we are in the final stages of moving the hosting to our experienced team at Opera Software Australia (FastMail.FM).

Opera Web Mail will finally be fully run by Opera, which means that we will no longer be limited by external companies with different priorities.

The service will be separate from the fastmail.fm service, and will use your old Opera Web Mail username and password to log in.

Keep an eye on the Opera Web Mail site for more details once the migration to our servers is done. You should see a mail in your inbox with more information about the new service at that time as well.

In addition to the current Opera Web Mail and FastMail.FM services, we will soon unveil a brand new webmail service where you will be using your existing My Opera username and password to log in.

Note that fastmail.fm and operamail.com are not going away. You will be able to keep your old e-mail addresses!

  1. Great News! I use paid account at FastMail. It's very interesting to look at new mail in MyOpera. Thanks a lot!

  4. It was about time. Let's see what "In addition to the current Opera Web Mail and FastMail.FM services, we will soon unveil a brand new webmail service where you will be using your existing My Opera username and password to log in."is going to be all about.

  5. This is welcome news! I had been wondering whether the switch was made quietly, soon after acquiring Fastmail. But instead, the staff have put lots of thought into the process first. It would be killer to handle emails directly in the next version of Opera Mini (!!), but only time will tell.

  6. This is great! I'm a free Opera Web Mail user and also a paid FastMail user! It's nice to see OWM get better support!

Planned to merge existing free Fastmail account to new @myopera.com account ?

  8. I don't have any specific information, so you'll have to wait until something is made public.

  9. I have specific information :sherlock: For My Opera we intend to still support user names with '-' but not '~' or '_' which aren't directly allowed in domain names (Unite).

  10. Each instance of Unite runs on its own domain, the Unite page on My Opera is just one way to discover Unite servers.

  11. We figured laptop.borg.operaunite.com made more sense for the laptop of my.opera.com/borg than most other alternatives
